1965 Harmony "Truetone" Acoustic Parlor Guitar. Repair Project.
Travel back in time with this vintage acoustic guitar. Made by Harmony in 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, back when Chicago was still Music City USA, home of Harmony, Kay, Valco, Ludwig, Lyon & Healy, Deagan, Geib, Kluson etcetera. The headstock is branded "Truetone," which was the house brand of the old Western Auto department store chain. With a 13-1/4" lower bout, it's a smaller sized guitar, similar in looks and style as the ubiquitous Harmony Stella guitars. Except this one has a red burst finish. Painted pickguard, fret markers, and faux soundhole and top binding. It was made as a budget guitar for the department store market. The neck is fairly straight, with a little rise where the neck meets the body. Three of the four top ladder braces are entirely loose. 12th fret action is between 5/32" and 6/32". The bridge can be shaved a bit to take some of the action down, but, really, it could use a neck reset to bring the action down to at least 3/32". Cosmetically, it's a cool looking guitar and is in pretty okay condition with some, but not a lot, of ordinary play wear. There is a hairline crack in the top from the soundhole along the bass edge of the neck tongue. The first three frets of the neck is worn. Wear around edges of the headstock. No case. It's an old American guitar that just needs some TLC to bring it back.
For
shipping, it will be well wrapped with plenty of new ½” bubble wrap and shipped
in a new 46” by 19” by 7” cardboard instrument box. Questions? Please check out
