1967 Fender Jaguar Vintage Offset Electric Guitar Sunburst 100% Original w/ Case
Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Jaguar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This Jag is everything a vintage Fender Offset guitar should be, with a gorgeous three-tone sunburst finish that is still extremely vibrant, with a particularly eye-catching marbled nitrate tortoise pickguard. Weighing 9lbs 2oz, this medium weight Jaguar has a focused attack and great resonance from decades of being lovingly played. Professionally setup and dialed in with 11-50 nickel strings, this Jaguar is an incredibly versatile Fender axe with all the twang, snap and jangle you could ever want!
Tonally, the Jaguar features single coils with staggered alnico magnets that are very similar in output and design to a Stratocaster with the notable addition of the metal claws that focus the field of the magnets and dampen a bit of the usual single coil hum. Matched with 1Meg pots, the Jaguar has a very open tonal quality and a fullness and brash rhythm tone that you simply can't coax out of any other Fender. From spank and snarl in the bridge position to more mellow jangle at the neck, this Jaguar boasts a switch or knob for your every tonal desire. Flip on the rhythm circuit for even more smoothed out, dark tones that help abate the excess treble response of many amps while also providing a lovely voicing for your favorite overdrive and fuzz pedals.
The neck has a medium C profile that borders on the more slender side of things, and the original gloss nitro finish on the maple is still completely intact and silky smooth. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports lightly aged white binding and pearloid block inlays, with 1967 being the very first full year to boast this cosmetic feature. The original frets are intact and play very well, having been leveled in recent years and currently showing only faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, and virtually no wear up the neck, although the crowns are notably flatter than when the guitar left the factory. Neck relief is ideal and the truss rod is responsive in both directions, allowing this Jag to be ideally setup with no buzzing or dead spots. The original "Fender Jaguar" waterslide decal is very clean and completely intact on the headstock and the original Fender "F" tuning machines are intact, turn smoothly and hold pitch well. There is one tiny additional string tree hole, and a small cigarette burn adjacent to the low E tuner, but no other wear of note!
On the body, all of the control plates retail their gleaming chrome finish and provide a nice contrast to the stock nitrate tortoise pickguard, which has a deep red "meatball" marbeling common in the era. All of the electronics are clean and stock, with early 1966 Stackpole pots and solder joints that haven't been touched since the factory. The body routes are untouched, with original shielding plates intact, and beneath the "claws" of both pickups, the original gray bobbins each have handwritten dates. In fact every date on the guitar is from 1966, aside from one of the pickup bobbin dates, which reads 1/9/67. The vibrato unit is properly calibrated for everything from subtle shimmies to deep bends, jumping back into tune well and responding to the slightest touch with the original arm.
The nitro lacquer three-tone sunburst finish is very rich and saturated on the face of the instrument, with only light fading of the central red ring of the burst and a bright yellow center indicative of this era of Fender bursts. With the pickguard removed, hints of a thicker red layer are still visible, and the back of the guitar has a very vibrant and rich three-tone appearance where the red is still fully present in the burst. There is an assortment of small nicks and chips in the finish around the contours of the body, light buckle rash on the back (not through the finish), and a few prominent dings on the belly cut on the back, but this is simply evidence of a lovingly played vintage instrument. They don't sound this good if they didn't get played, and we challenge any modern Custom Shop relic to look this tasteful and true!
A blonde Pre-CBS Fender hardshell case is included. This Jaguar case was paired with Fender's instruments from 1963-64, and while not technically original to a Jag from '66, it's an arguably more valuable case than the original, and looks great with black leather ends and original latches that work well. The case shows moderate wear on the ends, but the orange plush interior is clean with the original pocket, and this case provides a sturdy tote for this vintage Jaguar. There was a bit of foam added to the case lid and subsequently removed as well.
