Acoustic Guitar Bridge
USA Luthier (ret.) Made
East Indian Rosewood, six-string Martin style.
2 1/4" string spacing, 2 7/8" by 3/32" saddle slot
I've retired from lutherie, but still like to putter around in the shop. So I’m making bridges and slotting fretboards, at least for the time being. I make them personally in small lots of twelve or so. That’s enough to gain some efficiency on machine settings, but not so many as to drive me nuts with repetition. This one is part of a smaller batch. Apart from a slightly larger footprint and the string spacing, the dimensions are virtually the same as Stewmac’s standard Rosewood bridge. I like to think mine is better than the one Stewmac sells; and I know for sure it is better than those you can get from the Far East. Everything I make is done with hand tools or on ordinary metal- or woodworking machines. No CNC, no automation, no employees. Just a lot of years experience and pride in craftsmanship.
This one also has a particular refinement I often build into my bridges: the peg holes are in a gentle arc rather than a straight line. That way, you don’t have six holes lining up through the long grain and inviting a longitudinal split. (Any repair guy will tell you how often that’s a problem with the usual acoustic guitar bridge.) There’s no effect on intonation, etc. And it does look kind of cool. Check out the picture.
Try it...I think you’ll like it. If not, send it back to me and I’ll cheerfully refund your money.
