Last year I hold ideas that to buy a taylor guitar , but fell in love with Martin ,has purchased 000x1ae and D1,and finally at the end of last year and set the ultimate goal,
gibson j200.
These two days accidentally i saw a second-hand j200 in an instrument store , good condition, the lowest price that haven't ever seen, i couldn't sleep well
all night that day, the next morning ,
i did not hesitate any more and buy it for myself ,and my dream to own a j200 finally come true . See pictures below .
Talk about Martin first ,i bought the 000x1ae, then the old section D1 , also played the 00028 of my friends, the most fascinating thing that Martin shown me is :
Huge volume, long sustain, strumming sound tough, cracking, rumbling bass, treble not harsh, hard strumming, it is easy to feel explosive strength .
Isn's it a little unreliable? to say so ?The strumming sound like dynamite ,like fist deeply fascinated me , of course , handfeel is very good ,
especially my friend's 00028, the neck is relatively thicker than that if 000x1ae and D1,but pushing the strings is more comfortable and save strength .
Next is my new "wife"(which i call the guitar "wife", smiling......), gibson j200 is known for strumming artfact , the fisrt feeling when i held her is , gorgous , very thick. I am 177cm tall , in my arms ,feeling bigger that the standard d-type guitar , also feeling this is the biggest guitar that people like me (in terms of height ratio ) can bear. Talk about the handfeel, the first three low frets ,even lower that my 000x1ae ,feeling almost attached to the frets ,but there is no buzz. String clearances are relatively higher from the high position , visually , the sixth string on the 12th fret is around 3mm.But maybe because that the guitar neck is somewhat bent , i had no idea that it was because of improper maintenance or just the guitar design itself. If it is relatively straght , the clearance could be wihin 3mm. Neck thickness is almost the same with that of 00028 , but the neck shapes are not the same , i think to grip the neck of 00028 is more comfortable .
Here to talk about tone , and really completely different from Martin , no matter the decomposition or strumming , it did not sustain like the Martin did ,
bass is not too heavy , no matter the handfeel ,sound , Martin is relatively more resilient, hard strumming ,sound is also great. For me , j200 like a bell ,
Martin like a cannon. When decomposition , j200 did not sound easy to explode out ,not sustaining that Martin, not clear that taylor , but if you play some rhythm,
you will appreciate some special elasticity , you can feel sound fed back like a spring . Before i played Martin , taylor gs mini, 214ce ,314ce and never had such a feeling ,
and when play some right-hand muted sound things , you will find exceptionally clear sound , unplugged when the feeling is not obvious, but to perform outside,
the difference is very obvious, my two Martin will sound boring, the sound will stick together, but j200 will be very clear. Also , when i sweep that kind of fast-paced
countryside music, i felt very clear , Martin's voice will stack up , mixed together , but j200 did not sound mixed , but if you play a similar kind of bass slap ,
Martin will be more appropriate than j200 .
These are the biggest differences that i felt , to conclude :j200 sounds like a full resilient spring, martin is a dry spread of cannon.
Some people say that gibson is suitable for playing ,i understand in this way that probably because the sound will not fried out even you are forced to play .
There is no better one , just depends on your own music style and which you prefer.
