PLUS: 5 fingerpicking tunes: Streets of Laredo, When You & I were Young Maggie, Windy & Warm, and Blue Smoke!
This is the only time I ever heard him do Streets of Laredo, it's worth it for just that tune, a beautiful version! In general it's my favorite instrumental recording (never made into a "record") of Doc! It's very listenable for an instrumental recording, even if you're not a guitarist, and that's saying a lot! I find many instrumental recordings too over the top, too many notes, etc. , and even though he's playing plenty of notes here, the feeling is not of someone showing what he can do, just someone who loves music, and is a very tasteful musician! A few C&W steel guitar tunes like Remington Ride and Speedin' West, plus Sheik of Araby! The other 18 are all fiddle, and country tunes (Don't Let The Deal Go Down, in key of F).
The quality is excellent for an old recording (circa 1965), no background noise or hiss. I'd say for guitar aficionados and those who appreciate music, this is a priceless recording, for which I'm asking a small price!
Doc Watson live home recording during his visit and performance at the Ash Grove, Hollywood CA, circa 1965. Made at the request of Clarence White, with Clarence on 2nd guitar!PS, I also have a really fine JOE MAPHIS & Rose Lee Maphis live concert at the UCLA Folk Festival, same time frame, that has great singing and playing on it (Sourwood Mtn., Cornbread and 'Lasses and Sassafras Tea, 9 Pound Hammer (Merle Travis style, great playing and better singing!) Soldiers' Joy and Old Joe Clark Medley, played 99 mph on his doubleneck. I can include that one for $4 extra.
