A 1953 Kay K-161 Thin Twin Jimmy Reed Guitar Project...

If you are looking at this, you don't need any explanations. You never see these coming up as projects. This one has the Pickguard and Pickups which I will be listing next week. It comes as you see it. Nice Neck, Body, original nut, bridge pins, and neck plate...No other parts are included...

The neck is nice and straight. The original brass frets still have lots of life left in them. Some finger divots in the top 5 fret areas from player wear. See pic 4... This beauty has been played over the years. The bindings are in very good shape but there is one small area on the top of the headstock that is missing..it will have to be replaced. See pic 7... The beautiful Firestripe Neck plate is included and it looks great. Matches the original Pickguard. See pic 10...

I was able to find a 1953 Montgomery Wards Catalog that lists this guitar as you see it without any Kay Logo on it. It was only sold by Wards that way in 1953...Not sure why, but its there. Kay, of course, is the maker of this guitar. It was branded with a Kay logo or some where made with Silvertone Logos...All made by Kay... These guitars were branded as the Thin Twin from the body width and twin single coil Pickups. It is sometimes called the Jimmy Reed. He was a famous guitarist in the 1950's that played one of these...Very cool guitars.

This guitar is a project. No returns whatsoever. Please know what you are buying. If you don't have the skills to finish this one up or pay someone to do it for you, please pass it by. Thanks for respecting this.
