ITEM: Less than 5,000 of these iconic instruments were produced by Hermann Weissenborn in total. They were made in Los Angeles during the 1920s and 1930s. This is one of the few surviving instruments and is still in remarkable condition. This Weissenborn does show signs of its age and we have made every effort to capture the condition of the instrument in our photos. Of note is 5 crack's on the instruments top. This guitar has a hollow neck and no truss rod, which is part of what makes these instruments unique and very resonant and yield its sweet tone .
This Weissenborn does not have a serial number. This is a “Style #1 Hawaiian,” which features all Koa construction with MOP eyes on the fingerboard, It has a shellac finish. Pricing guides place this model between $4,000 and $4,800 in excellent condition. BUT this one has 5 sealed cracks with a material skill done by a novice!

Weissenborn or H. Weissenborn is a brand of lap slide guitar manufactured by Hermann Weissenborn in Los Angeles in the 1920s and 1930s.
These instruments are now highly sought after, and form the base for most non-resonator acoustic lap steel guitars currently produced. It is estimated that fewer than 5,000 original instruments were produced, and it is unknown how many now survive. The signature feature of Weissenborn guitars is the hollow neck, effectively a highly adapted body chamber that runs the entire length of the body, making conventional playing completely impossible.
The name Weissenborn is now commonly used to describe this style of instrument in general, with H. Weissenborn and modern factory or luthier reproductions being referred to as Weissenborn or Weissenborn-style guitars.

OPTICALLY: One beautiful guitar ! I have seen over 500 guitars and I don't buy guitars. This guitar made in 1920 has violin techniques of construction ! High quality wood carving. unknown varnish finish type to me. A dream to play and look at! I end pin insertion work on this guitar. Mostly cleaning with proper oil.

REPAIR, ----- I setup and repair violins for over 10 year's now and personally enjoy redoing the really old VIOLIN's & shaping & adjusting feet on new bridges & installing NEW Chinese "German Silver Coated strings", to get maximum wonderful tonal sound quality. A complete setup was done by myself to this violin. I attended a large Pa. university Music department in one on one classes for two years for violin playing, in the last 10 years ago. I have refurbished and sold over 115+ violins on ebay, including cellos, violas, Brass wind instruments mostly saxophones, mandolins, ukuleles etc........
